New Starters 2026
Welcome to Burnopfield Primary School
Nursery Transition
We would like to extend a very warm welcome to all of the families starting Burnopfield Primary School Nursery in September 2026. This is an exciting point in your child’s journey and we are thrilled that you are joining us at Team Burnopfield. At Burnopfield Primary School, we work very closely with our parents to ensure the transition into our Nursery is a smooth process through a gradual approach, and includes lots of discussions and information sharing.
For those children starting in our Nursery it is a huge step, and an important part of their learning journey. Before children start with us, our Nursery staff offer visits to our Nursery setting. This is the perfect opportunity for positive relationships to be established in the comfort of a quiet environment.
Step 1: A 30 minute introductory visit with a parent, arranged with the Nursery teacher prior to the children starting.
Step 2: 2 hour visit without parents.
Step 3: Full 3 hour session without parents.
Further information will be outlined in your welcome letter from our Nursery teacher which you will receive in May/June. This will also include information about our 30 hour provision and eligibility.
Here are some key dates for your diary:
Thursday 11th June 2026 at 5pm
Our new Nursery parents are invited to attend an information open evening. This will give you an opportunity to meet the staff, explore the Nursery setting, find out key information in preparation for September, and have a coffee and chat with other new parents to Burnopfield Nursery. This is an informal session where you will be able to talk to relevant staff and discuss your child with our Nursery teacher or SENDCo, Mrs Marley.
Wednesday 2nd - Friday 4th September 2026
During these first few days our Nursery teacher will carry out the pre arranged Nursery visits. Our Nursery teacher will contact parents to arrange times and give further information in July.
Week Beginning Monday 7th September 2026
Nursery children will start their sessions this week following a staggered, and gradual approach. Our Nursery teacher will communicate timings and dates with our new parents during the Summer Term.
Reception Transition
Welcome to Burnopfield Primary School Reception for September 2026. We are so excited to be welcoming our new cohort of children to Team Burnopfield and look forward to meeting new faces as they start their journey with us.
Children attend our Reception setting from a wide catchment area. Most children have previously attended our Nursery provision, but there are a number of children who join us from other Nurseries. Our Reception staff work very closely with each Nursery to obtain information about each child, and will go and visit the children in the Nursery settings during the Summer term before starting in Reception when requested by the setting or the parents.
During the Summer Term we invite the children starting Reception to attend taster sessions. Children are given the chance to explore all areas of the provision, including our Classroom, Outdoor Learning Area and Adventure Garden, and meet the staff that will be caring for them during their time in Reception at Burnopfield.
Throughout June and July our Reception Team will send out information posters to parents via email to support the transition process over the Summer Holidays. This is a perfect way to get to know our staff, and the environment they will soon be settled into.
Here are some key dates for your diary:
Wednesday 17th June 2026
All of our new Reception parents are invited to attend an Information Open Evening at 5pm in our Infant Hall. This session will give you information about Team Burnopfield and our school, and what September will look like for your child and you. It will also allow you to see our Reception provision and ask any questions that you may have, whilst having a coffee and chatting with new Reception parents too. This is an informal session where you will be able to talk to relevant staff or discuss your child with our Early Years Leader, Mrs Huntley, or SENDCo, Mrs Marley.
Wednesday 24th June and Thursday 25th June 2026
From 3:45pm- 4:30pm children who are new to Burnopfield Primary School and have not attended our Nursery will be invited to attend ‘Stay and Play sessions’. This will allow the children to explore the setting at a quieter time of the day and in smaller groups. Our new children will be able to spend time with the staff who will be supporting them next year and explore the classroom environment too. More information will follow in May 2026.
Wednesday 1st July 2026
Transition morning in the Reception Classrooms from 9:30am-11:30am.
Children are invited to spend the morning with their new teacher, getting to know the environment and the adults they will be working with in September.
Please note: this morning will only be for the children, and adults are not invited to stay.
Wednesday 2nd - Friday 4th September 2026
Reception children will start school at the same time as the rest of school. Children will enter school from the Infant Yard. Children can arrive at school anytime between 8:45am and 8:55am, when the doors will be promptly closed. They will then remain at school for the full day before being collected between 3:15pm and 3:25pm, when the rest of the school end their day.
Week Beginning Monday 7th September 2026
The children will attend full time (8:45am-3:25pm)
All of these transition experiences create an invaluable starting point where essential information can be exchanged between staff, parents and carers. If you have any further questions or would like more information, please contact Mrs Huntley (Early Years Leader) via our school office (01207 270397).
