The Nest
Our new Nurture Provision, named “The Nest” to fit in with our tree themed classes, is an intervention group where sessions are focussed on understanding and dealing with emotions, self esteem and self regulation. It is run by two members of staff and our SENDCO is the Nurture Group Co-ordinator. Staff have had training from Nurture UK.

The sessions we run are to give our children vital opportunities for social experiences, such as, by encouraging them to share food at snack time and have small group conversations and to help other children in the group. The friendly, supportive relationship between the two members of staff is also an important source of learning as it models positive relationships and behaviour for the children to observe and learn from.

We follow the six principles of nurture and embed them within the sessions. These six principles help staff to focus on the social and emotional needs and development of children and young people, ensuring all pupils are ready to learn. Our sessions run for 2 hours and each group will attend at least 3 sessions per week, meaning they are in a routine and with the same social group each time, again helping to build those vital relationships with peers and the staff.

We have a daily routine, which is visual, so the children know what to expect next and when. This includes structured play time, relaxation time, curriculum work, nurture work, snack and circle time.
Nurture principles and training are evidence-based and practice-led, ensuring education professionals are equipped with the tools they need to meet the social, emotional and mental health needs of the pupils. Nurture enables staff to identify, understand, and address pupils’ needs with the right support.
