Welcome to our Early Years – a bright, busy engaging environment both indoors and out. A place where we strive to ensure children are happy, safe and motivated whilst learning the basic skills they need to help them on their journey through life.

We encourage independence and resilience and aim to create a culture of tolerance towards each other, appreciating and celebrating our similarities, differences and achievements.

Year 2

In KS1 we aim for children to enjoy school and become confident people who are well prepared for the world they are growing up in. We encourage a growth mind set in everything we do – always trying our best and never giving up. Our curriculum is based on the national curriculum and we enrich our learning experiences by planning sessions that use our lovely school grounds and forest school environment. We also incorporate many visits to different museums, events and locations to enhance our curriculum alongside the special subject, cultural and creativity days which take place in school. Children learn skills to be a Geographer, Scientist or Historian through exciting topics such as Alien Invasion, Medieval Madness, Pirates and Superheroes.

Learning can continue after school with activities such as Little Kickers, Little Rugby, Mini-Detectives, Forest School and Book Club being offered to KS1 pupils.

Across Key Stage 1 we expect respect and we show this by following our golden rules that allow us all to be safe, happy, valued and to learn. Positive behaviour is rewarded with a Golden Time treat each half term such as making sandwiches and enjoying a picnic, cheerleading, obstacle courses, art and craft activities or handling creatures such as snakes and lizards up close!

Pupil voice is important in Key Stage One so classes vote for children to represent their ideas, opinions and views on the school council, Eco-club, SNAG and Reading Champions groups.

Throughout the key stage we work hard to challenge and inspire the children whilst they have fun learning so that they make excellent progress both academically and personally. The children therefore leave us with the necessary skills and positive attitude to make a smooth transition into Key Stage Two where they go on to build upon their success.

Key Stage 2

Welcome to the wonderful world of Burnopfield Primary School’s Key Stage Two…

A place full of answers to questions such as: ‘Space: is the future always in motion?’ ‘Why do volcanoes erupt?’ ‘What can we learn from World War 2?’ And ‘Who were the Mayans?’

In our Key Stage Two classes, children develop many new skills and have the opportunity to experience new situations, such as a real WW2 evacuation, a trip back in time to when the Romans ruled and even the opportunity to make their own fairground rides and robots.

We are proud that our exciting curriculum gives our children the skills, confidence and self-belief to lead a happy and fulfilled life by encouraging them to aim high and work towards their goals and dreams in life with a growth mindset. We believe that every child should feel valued and experience the feeling of success in a wide range of curriculum areas. We believe that through the curriculum we can help children to feel clever, confident and ready to tackle any challenge they may face.

In Key Stage Two positive behaviour is rewarded regularly through our golden time treats. Did you know that our children have had games days, hula hooping and have even visited a pantomime? This is just a flavour of what we have on offer.

The learning continues after school with a variety of exciting after schools clubs such as: ecadets, film club, art club and mindfulness to name but a few.

From our youngest children in Year 3 right up to our eldest in Year 6, we work hard, develop our skills and most importantly, have fun whilst we are doing it! We ensure that every child at Burnopfield Primary School makes excellent progress both academically and personally. Children leave us with self-belief, determination and the confidence to face new challenges at secondary school and carry these skills into the future.
