Welcome to our Early Years – a bright, busy engaging environment both indoors and out. A place where we strive to ensure children are happy, safe and motivated whilst learning the basic skills they need to help them on their journey through life.
We encourage independence and resilience and aim to create a culture of tolerance towards each other, appreciating and celebrating our similarities, differences and achievements.
Key Stage 1

Welcome to Burnopfield Primary School’s Key Stage One. A place where laughs can be heard, smiles can be seen and every child is nurtured to be the best person they can be!
In KS1 we aim for our children to enjoy school and become confident people who are well prepared for the world they are growing up in. We encourage a growth mind set in everything we do – always trying our best and never giving up. We truly are vibing and thriving!
Our curriculum is based on the National Curriculum and we enrich our learning experiences by planning sessions that use our impressive school grounds and Forest School environment. Children learn the key skills to be a curious Geographer, the next top Scientist or future Historian through a wide range of discovery themed topics and visits; for example “How has Burnopfield changed in the past 100 years?” and “Is the UK the perfect holiday destination?”

Learning continues after school with activities such as Little Kickers, Forest School, Drawing Club, Karate, Nurture, Board Games Club and Active Club being offered to KS1 pupils.

Across Key Stage 1 we promote the ethos of “Expect Respect”. Our children thrive on positivity and a culture of mutual respect. This ensures we all feel safe, are happy, valued and ready to learn. In Key Stage One positive behaviour is rewarded regularly through our golden time treats. Did you know that our children have had games days, hula hooping and have even visited a pantomime? This is just a little snippet of what we have on offer.

Throughout Key Stage One we work hard, challenging and inspiring our younger learners, whilst also having a lot of fun along the way! We ensure our children develop a love of learning, and thrive both academically and personally. The children leave us with the essential skills and positive attitude to support them in having a smooth transition into Key Stage Two where they go on to further build upon their successes.

Key Stage 2
Welcome to the wonderful world of Burnopfield Primary School’s Key Stage Two…
A place full of answers to questions such as:What would you have needed to know in order to conquer America? How does the Tyne bring life to our area? What makes a city great? How did coal mining impact our local area?
In our Key Stage Two classes, children develop many new skills and have the opportunity to experience new situations, such as a real WW2 evacuation, a trip back in time to when the Romans ruled and even the opportunity to make their own fairground rides and robots.
We are proud that our exciting curriculum gives our children the skills, confidence and self-belief to lead a happy and fulfilled life by encouraging them to aim high and work towards their goals and dreams in life with a growth mindset. We believe that every child should feel valued and experience the feeling of success in a wide range of curriculum areas. We believe that through the curriculum we can help children to feel clever, confident and ready to tackle any challenge they may face.

The learning continues after school with a variety of exciting after school clubs such as: board games, creative writing, film club, art club, karate and mindfulness to name but a few.
From our youngest children in Year 3 right up to our eldest in Year 6, we work hard, develop our skills and most importantly, have fun whilst we are doing it! We ensure that every child at Burnopfield Primary School makes excellent progress both academically and personally. Children leave us with self-belief, determination and the confidence to face new challenges at secondary school and carry these skills into the future.
