Four mornings a week we have Early Birds sessions from Years 1 to 6. Children are invited to attend each day from 8:25am to improve their reading and handwriting skills. Children in Years 1 to 3 focus on phonics. Children in Years 4 & 5 focus on reading comprehension and reading fluency. Children in Year 6 work on the Reciprocal Reading Programme which involves lots of discussion in order to improve children’s understanding of what they have read. There is a Key Stage 1 and a Key Stage 2 handwriting group which work on fine motor skills and letter formation. We always see great progress in these areas from the children who regularly attend sessions.
